PRE & POST CARE
Please pay particular attention to the protocols below.
They have been created for your own benefit and to optimise the treatment aims so that you get the best possible results.
MICRONEEDLING
Remember:
Although this has not been shown in clinical study, in case of dark skin, the skin may darken further before it lightens.

Avoid organising the treatment just before or after a vacation. This is because it will be difficult to avoid the sun exposure or your skin may have had excessive sun exposure.

Ensure that you have all products and sunscreens that you wish to use to nourish and protect your skin ready and available at home before you come for treatment. This will avoid risk of unnecessary exposure and will also allow you to concentrate on and enjoy your skin recovery.

6 MONTHS PRE CARE
There should be a minimum of 6 months gap between any oral intake of isotretinoin and the procedure.

MINIMUM 24 HR PRE-CARE
-
Do not opt for excessive sun exposure or sun burns in the 24-hour period pre-procedure.
-
Do not use topical retinoids in the 24 hours pre-procedure.
-
Do inform the clinic of any active breakouts or open lesions because the procedure will not be carried out. Please rearrange procedure.
-
Do allow a minimum of 24 hours between any autoimmune therapies and the procedure.
30 MIN PRE-TREATMENT
Depending on your own pain threshold, you may choose to apply a topical anaesthetic with 5% Lidocaine to the treatment area.
‘Emla’ is a numbing cream and is available from most chemists. Please ensure that you have organised a tube of the numbing cream ahead of the treatment day to avoid the risk of a pharmacy having run out of stock on the day.
AFTER CARE
Your skin has been deliberately traumatised so that it can start producing collagen and elastin. We would like to help the skin to concentrate on this process without giving it additional factors or irritants to deal with too.
It is recommended to avoid any products which are not declared safe following the procedure as they can cause unexpected complications.
72 HRS POST PROCEDURE
In the first 24 Hours
-
Do use the provided ‘Lift’. The skin may feel itchy, flaky and/or dry. ‘Lift’ will help with these issues by hydrating the skin.
-
Do not opt for sun exposure in this period and also avoid sunscreen. Since you will not be in the sun you will not use any sunscreen.
-
Do not opt for exercise; heat and perspiration are irritants to treated skin.
-
Do not opt for sauna, steam room, other exfoliants, any other treatments to the treated area. This will give it time to heal.
In the next 48 hours
-
Do use the provided ‘Rescue’ and also any left-over ‘Lift’.
-
Do minimize sun exposure, if you cannot avoid it altogether, in this period. If you are to be exposed to the sun, sun screen should be worn (SPF factor 30 minimum.)
CRYOSURGERY
PRE CARE
Do purchase an antiseptic cream
MINIMUM 3 DAYS PRE-TREATMENT
-
Do not use antihistamines
-
Do not use any active topicals on the area to be treated such as Retinal, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid etc
-
To optimise results, prepare warts and verrucae daily for one week pre- appointment. Soak them for 5 mins. After soaking, gently file their surface. For larger warts/verrucae or for those that have been a slightly longer treatment may be useful. This ensures that no viral cells remain.
AFTER CARE
Approximately 2 - 4 hours after treatment a blister may form which can last from 3-5 days. After such time the blister forms a scab. Within 7-14 days, the scab can fall off on its own. It is possible, that a new scab form and then falls off in the same way. The treated lesion will be completely healed in approx. 4 weeks. This is time for a second session. The treated are will be lighter than the surrounding tissue because of loss of melanocytes in the freezing process.
-
Swelling may occur round the site for a few hours. This is normal.
-
Stinging for 10-60 minutes post treatment may be felt. Painkiller may be taken, if needed, although this is usually not necessary.
-
if possible, do not cover treatment site.
-
Scabs may appear a few days after treatment.
-
Do not pick, scratch or rub scabs or burst blisters as scarring may occur.
-
Do not take any antihistamine for 48 hours after. The treatment is partly based on histamine action.
-
Lesion will shed after 4 -14 days; it can sometimes last over 4 weeks.
-
Healing takes up to 4 weeks in most cases.
-
Temporary skin colour change (skin darkens) often occurs, but in darker skins may be permanent.
-
Use SPF 50 on new skin when lesion has shed. New pink skin underneath will gradually re-pigment to surrounding skin’s natural colour.
-
If a blister does appear, leave it alone and do not pop it; it will go down on its ow. If it bursts, weeping may occur. In such case, use a non-alcoholic baby wipe to remove any debris from the area. It is also advisable to apply a smear of antiseptic cream onto it twice a day. An adhesive dressing such as a plaster can be used to cover the area.
-
If healing is not as expected and redness or pain is present, please contact clinic or your Doctor as you may have contracted an infection.
-
If the skin being treated is tanned, the treatment will remove the tan and the skin will re pigment to the original skin colour.
-
A compromised immune system can adversely affect healing. If healing does not take place even after 8 weeks, please refer to your doctor or dermatologist. The lack of healing may be as a result of a condition that you are unaware of or that has not been formally medically diagnosed. It is also possible that the area needs further treatment.

LESION IDENTIFICATION

Remember;
Usually, when a lesion is removed, no special care is needed during healing. The aftercare is the same as for Cryosurgery, (see care for Cryosurgery)
It normally takes a couple of weeks for a lesion to scab and fall off after cryosurgery.. Only occasionally, it may take longer.
Your skin may look lighter (hypopigmentation) or darker (hyperpigmentation) after treatment. If you have darker skin, you may notice the pigmentation more. However, this normally improves with time.
The treated area can feel numb after cryosurgery. This can happen if nerves on the skin surface are frozen during procedure. This is usually only temporary and may even last a few months.

AFTER CARE
-
The area treated should be washed gently once or twice a day and kept clean.
-
A bandage or dressing should only be needed if the area rubs against clothes or may be easily injured.
-
The treated area will be more prone to sunburn, and sunscreen must be used to protect it.
